Please pray for my dog

Oskar is spending the night in the animal hospital. They think he has a herniated disk. His back half is pretty much paralysed, but since he's a daschund, back injuries are common. He is getting iv treatments and steroids and stuff, and we'll pick him up in the morning and take him to our regular vet. If that doesn't help, then we might have to put him to sleep. Fortunately he doesn't seem to be in pain, just very agitated because he can't figure out why his back half can't move. Please continue to pray for him and my family. Letting my sister know tomorrow will be especially difficult (she went back to school this afternoon before he got sick).

Laura, with crate rest, he may recover. We have lots of dachshunds (8) and this isn't that uncommon if they jump off of something or use stairs too frequently.

There are a couple of treatments....just rest and physical confinement to rest the back is one, and surgery is another.

Also, doggie wheel carts are available so that those that are permanently paralyzed can still be mobile and have a good quality of life.

Here is an example of a dog wheelchair/cart http://www.dogkarts.com/

My sister had her dog, a shih tzu, recover from complete paralysis just with medications and a couple of weeks of crate rest and very limited activity.

I'm praying for the little guy.

Also, doggie ramps so that there is no jumping, are easy to make. And, avoid letting him take the stairs.

If I can help in any way, please let me know.
